Environment Ministry to Launch Third-Phase Campaign to Clean Up Cambodia

Phnom Penh, 12 July 2024: Building on the success of its ongoing second-phase campaign, “Clean Cambodia! Khmer Can Do!”, the Ministry of Environment is set to launch its third-phase initiative, which will focus on garbage storage and separation. The aim is to make Cambodia clean by 2025.

The plan was unveiled by Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, at the opening ceremony of the 4th Seedling Promotion and Distribution Exhibition on July 10 in Phnom Penh, held under the theme “Green Sprouts”.

The minister emphasized that the campaign will begin with students and workers to instill a clean environment mindset, ensuring the effort is sustained across Cambodia. He explained that if students, youth, and workers reduce or stop the use of plastic and promote a clean environment, future generations will follow suit.

This long-term strategy aims to ensure clean homes, communities, and the country, contributing to the better health and well-being of all Cambodians, and eventually attracting more tourists.

The ministry's first-phase campaign, “Today I Do Not Use Plastic,” engaged over 8.5 million students, workers, and other Cambodians from all walks of life. Building on this achievement, the second-phase campaign, “Clean Cambodia! Khmer Can Do!”, has seen participation from 385 communes and Sangkats in 76 towns, districts, and cities across 16 provinces in just two months.
